School demolition case hearing put off

The Provincial Anti-Corruption Court (PACC) on Monday heard arguments on acquittal pleas filed by several accused in the Jufelhurst School demolition case.

Karachi Development Authority (KDA) Director General Samiuddin Siddiqui appeared for the hearing, which was adjourned till February 27. The court is hearing arguments on the acquittal pleas filed on behalf of Inspector Adnan Ali, ASI Irshad Ahmed, ASI Hakim Ali, constructor Sajjad Bashir, contractor Muhammad Ameen, surveyor Ghulam Fareed, former mukhtiarkar Ahmed Memon and others.

Their counsel argued that they were innocent and were not aware of the fact that the building had ever been declared a heritage site. The prosecution contended that Adnan Ali, Zeeshan and others had tried to occupy the school’s land by destroying the building in April 2017.

The former mukhtiarkar, Memon, is alleged to have issued a no-objection certificate on March 16, 2016, in violation of due rules and regulations. The Jufelhurst School was…
